Pirate Comic Preview One

I haven't posted anything in a while (mostly because I've been absolutely drowning in schoolwork and haven't had much of a chance to do anything), but I have been working a lot on my "draftsmanship" recently and I'm looking for some feedback to see if it's paying off at all.

So I thought I'd put this up. It's the first couple of panels from a long, as of yet untitled pantomime comic I'm working on about the "new world" during the late 1500s. I'm trying to strike the balance between a "clean-line", simple, cartoonish style and realistic, observational detail, and I really don't know if it's working, so please please please give your honest opinion, good or bad.
